Madklar

mad · klar (Danish, roughly MAD-klar; food-ready): having dinner decided before the evening starts.

Plan the week’s meals and shopping.

Madklar remembers who is home, what they eat, and what worked before. Plan anything from breakfast and packed lunches to dinner, sides, and dessert, with one shopping list and the recipes ready.

Madklar brings all the week’s meals into one plan based on who is home and what each person eats. Ingredients from every recipe are combined in the same shopping list. The iPhone app is available in English and Danish.

Planning is the hard part

The hard part is keeping the family’s meals, four calendars, food restrictions, and the shopping list in your head at once. Madklar brings the details together, suggests meals, and records your choices before the day gets busy.

Why we made Madklar

Built from real family life

We’re Marie and Marek, co-founders of Madklar. Our blended family has four children, changing schedules, different needs, and several food restrictions. We wanted to choose organic when the budget allowed, but the details of the weekly plan were split between the two of us.

We built Madklar from that experience, with the flexibility to adapt to each household. It gave us one shared meal plan, streamlined our shopping, and helped us compare the estimated cost of our basket at nearby stores. We saved mental energy and money, and wanted other families to have the same support.

How it works

Add your household

Preferences, restrictions, and who's eating which nights. Set it once, not every week.

Choose from suggestions

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, packed lunches, sides, and dessert can each have their own slots, with suggestions matched to the meal and the people eating.

The entire plan becomes one shopping list

Ingredients from every recipe are combined in the same list. When it is time to cook, the recipe you chose is ready.

What you already have

Keep track of the fridge, freezer, and cupboards

Madklar gives the household a shared view of staples and recent purchases. Quantities, refill levels, and ingredients reserved for planned meals stay connected to the shopping list.

  • Add staples and set how much you want to keep on hand
  • Record when something is bought, used, eaten, or discarded
  • See what the plan will use and what is still available

Not just dinner

Tomorrow's packed lunches belong in the plan too

Add packed lunches as their own slots. Madklar suggests recipes that work well in a lunchbox, and their ingredients join the same shopping list as the week's dinners.

  • Lunchbox-friendly recipes, not dinner leftovers by default
  • Different children, days, preferences, and restrictions
  • Everything consolidated into one shopping list

Questions

What is Madklar?

Madklar is a meal-planning app for busy families. It remembers who is home and what everyone eats, then brings all the week’s meals into one plan, one shopping list, and the recipes you need.

Who is Madklar for?

Any household that wants to plan meals in advance: families juggling different schedules, shared households, and anyone tired of the daily "what are we eating" scramble.

Is Madklar available on Android?

Not yet. Madklar is iPhone-only at launch.

What does Madklar cost?

Madklar has a free plan for basic weekly planning and a Premium plan that covers your whole household. Premium includes a 14-day free trial. Cancel before it ends and you will not be charged. See current prices.

How do shopping lists and price estimates work?

Premium shopping lists compare daily-refreshed estimates across stores, so you can see roughly what the planned basket may cost and where it may be cheaper before you shop. These are estimates, not real-time shelf prices. They are available in Denmark today, with more regions to follow. How price estimates work.

Is this a diet or wellness app?

No. Madklar does not count calories or push wellness messages. It helps plan the meals your household chooses.

How Madklar’s grocery price estimates work

Price estimates are a Premium feature that helps you compare your planned basket across supported Danish grocery stores before you shop.

What is compared?

Madklar starts with the shopping list generated from the week’s selected dinner and packed-lunch recipes. Repeated ingredients are consolidated, and items you have recorded at home can be removed from what you still need to buy.

It then shows an estimated basket total for each store that can be compared. This helps you see where your particular plan may cost less, instead of only comparing a few individual offers.

How current are the estimates?

The underlying product estimates are refreshed daily. They are not real-time shelf prices, and the final total can vary because of availability, offers, pack sizes, and local changes in a store.

Use the comparison as practical guidance, not as a guarantee of the exact checkout price or a fixed budget promise.

Where is the feature available?

Price estimates are available in Denmark today. More regions are planned.
